The beautiful duality of Vogue Brazil’s custom-made typeface by Studio DRAMA is now formally an award winner. Securing the Graphite Pencil within the D&AD Awards 2023, the typeface was created particularly for the journal’s redesign in 2022.

The idea was influenced by typography generally present in posters round Brazil and the nation’s main publications. As with the timeless, basic imagery of Vogue, it was crucial that Vogue Brazil’s new typeface incorporate these facets and its Brazilian roots.

Based mostly on the idea of ‘elegant vernacular’, the London-based design studio created the Vogue Brasil Sans and Serif typeface pair. Regardless of being polar opposites, their distinctive options permit each variations to make an influence by themselves or beautiful imagery when mixed.

Portuguese alphabets usually use accents, or diacritics, for a distinction in pronunciation or that means. Bearing this in thoughts, Studio DRAMA crafted the typeface to be agile and versatile for such use, opening avenues for creativity and inventive styling.

Consequently, the visible influence of Vogue Brazil is a smooth, basic, and authentically Brazilian look. With hints of playfulness and minimalism, the Vogue Brasil Sans and Serif typeface is a recent strategy that merges the classics with modernity.
